Rainbow Dash

I forget, has FiM gone into any detail on the subject of rainbow magic? It's a G1 thing: there were about a dozen or so rainbow ponies and, according to their backcard stories, they all seemed to be imbued with some sort of strange magic which had something do to with their rainbow manes. It must be the manes because, if memory serves me, I once read a canonical G1 short story about a witch in hot pursuit of a rainbow mare, hoping to harvest her magical mane for her own selfish use. I say strange because it didn't seem to follow the same rules as unicorn magic, nor did one necessarily need to be a unicorn in order to utilize it. With unicorn magic one has to make a conscious decision to cast some spell or other, then actually go about casting it, but with the rainbow ponies magic just seemed to occur around them, often taking them by surprise.

For example, there was a rainbow earth pony name Sunlight who had a sentient shadow.

Another earth pony, Trickles, could instantaneously cause flowers of every description and hue, both natural and unnatural, to spring from the ground.

A pegasus named Starshine could apparently fly and breath in space.

Confetti (earth) brought a doll to life and flew after a rainbow despite being wingless.

Pinwheel (unicorn) was a straight up alchemist, transforming a few hundred stones into a ferris wheel, and all without losing any hooves or mangling a sibling, too!

Starflower (unicorn) could either see the future via dreams or somehow bend fate to her will. Hopefully it was the former, because the latter sounds terrifying.

Parasol (earth) could teleport.

Tickles (pegasus) could... actually, she didn't really demonstrate any obvious magic in her backcard story, but I suppose you could say she has the power to cure insomnia.

Moonstone (unicorn) could... hm... same dilemma as Tickles. Although Moonstone and the other rainbow ponies all seem to have an intimate relationship with the Rainbow of Light (an arguably sentient Lawful Good rainbow. It's basically G1's equivalent of the Elements of Harmony), going so far as to refer to it as their friend. Many of these backcard stories involve the rainbow ponies searching for the rainbow or longing to see it, almost like it pains them to be away from it for too long or something.

And most interesting of all, Windy (unicorn) and Flutterbye (pegasus) who could gallop at super-speeds and speak to animals respectively.
