What do you mean "I don't think Pinkie Pie is princess material?" "Laughter not that important?"

Why not? I mean, sure, celestial movements, love and friendship are all very regal, but I don't see why fun and laughter should play second fiddle, I think happiness is just as vital as the rise and set of the sun... what? Well, isn't it? I mean, what point is there in conscious existence if the consciousness is unhappy with it's existence? Might as well do our progeny a favor and not birth them if we're not going to take steps to ensure their lives will be more pleasure than pain.

To illustrate my meaning, take my motherland, America, for example: our society finds it's extremely important to study hard, work hard, buy that big house in the suburbs, get that shiny new car, sacrifice sleep and physical health to get straight A's on those totally-going-to-applicable-to-real-life exams or to get to the office extra early for that big raise. The people in our society who've acquired or inherited the most wealth and material goods are looked up to as role models and we're encouraged to emulate them, but how often do you get asked "when's the last time you had a really good laugh?" or "how many times a day do you have fun?" or "are you happy with your life?"

Seems we couldn't care less, national happiness is low on the list of priorities if it's even a priority to begin with. Constantly getting picked on at school over arbitrary nothings? Man up. Parents don't respect you? Put a sock in it you ungrateful brat. Collage too stressful? Oh, Boo-hoo. Frustrated at your boring dead end job? That's life. Being henpecked at the office? Here's a quarter, call someone who cares. Is your town/city/work commute soul-crushingly drab, gray, and ugly? Pfff, that's not even a valid complaint. Beauty is relative, an endless sea of parking lots and concrete rectangles with holes punched in the sides is just as beautiful and welcoming as Colmar, France. Depressed? Get over it. Shellshock? Take your meds, Patton. PTSD from childhood trauma or spousal abuse? Pardon me while I stick my head in the sand.

We don't seem to have any real solutions for unhappy people, let alone preventative measures to stop the creation of the circumstances that make people unhappy to begin with. American society, for the most part, doesn't even seem to think unhappiness is an issue in spite of climbing suicide rates and a silent epidemic of chronic Depression. No, I think we'd make good use of a patron of fun and laughter, and so could Equestria.

And perhaps Rarity can do something about our, ugh... "architecture."

But seriously, kidnap me and take me to Europe. I don't eat much and I only goosestep indoors. :c
